Jean Evelyn Lewis Obituary

Jean Lewis, 83, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas (formally of Redwood, Mississippi) passed away May 3, 2024. She was born May 19, 1940 in Grand Gulf, Mississippi to William Towne and Pearl Johnston Reed.


She liked tennis, softball, golf, and was a librarian. She was the first bookmobile librarian in Warren County, Vicksburg, Mississippi and the first female umpire for baseball in Warren County.


Jean was preceded in death by her father, William Towne; mother, Pearl Johnston Reed, Grandson, Brett Nevels and Grandson, Markus Lewis.


Survivors include her spouse Charles Lewis; children, Donna Lewis Weaver (Sam), Shari Lewis Nevels, David Lewis (Wanda); Grandchildren, Samantha Houston (Tommy), Kevin Nevels (Amanda), Scott Weaver, Brian Nevels, Michael Lewis, Matthew Lewis, Melissa Lewis; Great-Grandchildren, Eric Marr, Elizabeth Houston, Emma Houston, Claire Nevels, Lucas Nevels, and Mallory Weaver.


A celebration of Jean's life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7th at Caruth-Hale Village Funeral Home.


The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the EMTs, police and Fire Department of Hot Springs Village who went above and beyond to administer live saving measures. Our family is so grateful for all they did and being with her until the end.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salvation Army.
