Elizabeth Brassil Spinella Obituary

Elizabeth Brassil Spinella, of West Hartford, beloved wife of Edward F. Spinella, and mother of sons Edward B. Spinella and Kevin B. Spinella and his wife Katherine, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She grew up the youngest of five children and is survived by her siblings, Catherine Luby of Dallas, TX, Robert Brassil of Irving, TX, Ellen Brassil of West Hartford and many nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind her four beloved grandchildren, Felicity, Everly, Kevin Joseph and Luke. She was predeceased by her parents, John Edward and Rita Ellen Brassil, her brother John Richard Brassil, brother-in-law Richard Luby and nephews Douglas and Joseph.

As a student at Hall High School in West Hartford, Elizabeth was named “High School Actress of the Year”. She earned her BA in History, graduating with honors, at the College of the Holy Cross, where she minored in theater, and earned a BSN in Nursing from Cornell University. She offered decades of caring service as a nurse, beginning at Hartford Hospital in the 1980s and later specializing in geriatric nursing. She will be remembered for her compassionate nursing care as well as her sense of humor. But above all, family came first. She always practiced her Catholic faith with devotion and readily shared her love of Jesus and His Blessed Mother. Elizabeth was an accomplished equestrian and also served several years as a member of the West Hartford Board of Education.

The family wishes to express thanks to all the nurses and aides who have cared for her these last three years and to the Jefferson House in Newington for their exceptional care of Libby. The family is also grateful to Fr. Ed Gutierrez of St. Francis of Assisi parish in New Britain, Fr. Richard Fineo and Fr. Declan Gibson for their constant prayers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 6th, 2024 at 10:30am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley St., New Britain followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. There are no calling hours. Donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to In Season And Out Of Season, PO Box 602, East Boston, MA 02128.
