Elaine MacDonald Obituary

Elaine K. MacDonald, 78, of Hot Springs Village Arkansas, passed away peacefully April 27, 2024.She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1946 to George and Joyce Kirspel.


After receiving her Radiologic Technologist training in 1966, she began her career as an x-ray technician at Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport. It was here where she met Charles MacDonald in 1967, and they married three months later. During their 56 years of marriage they had three children, Colleen, Christa, and Michael.


From 1968 until 2009 Elaine raised her children along her journey across 7 states, 10 homes, and 24 different schools. She and Chuck moved to Hot Springs Village in 2009 and she immersed herself in various activities including square dancing, ladies' duffers golf, and Ladies of Sacred Heart Guilds. During this time Elaine also discovered she had a gift for Chinese Water Color paintings. Several of her pieces were sold to the public, and many will be on display at her Celebration of Life memorial.


Her passion for assisting others included her volunteer work at CHI St. Vincent Hospital, Jackson House, Garland County Hospice and P.E.O. international. In addition to these opportunities, she found time to pursue her other passion which was reading fiction. Family estimates she read over 10,000 books in her lifetime.


Elaine is survived by her husband Charles MacDonald, daughters Colleen Makare, (husband Craig), Christa Mancuso, (husband Frank), and son Michael MacDonald. She has five grandchildren; Dylan, Jack, Gavin, Aubrie and Ryan. She also leaves behind her brother Ken Kirspel (wife Kathy), brother Kerry Kirspel,( wife Dorcas), sister Laura Kirspel and sister-in-law Donna Kirspel.


Her celebration of life will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs on Saturday May 4th at 11:00 am, preceded by a Rosary Vigil at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
