Vernice McGinnis 95, born in Alabama, transitioned on Jan.17, 2016 at Berkeley Square Nursing Home in Hamilton, Ohio. She was the second of 11 children. A long-time resident of Oxford and member of Bethel AME Church, she leaves behind daughters, Darla (Peter) Knox, Delores (Charlie) Coles, and Debora Jackson. She also leaves, grandchildren, Jeff (Sharon) Knox, Greg Knox, Chris (Robin) Coles and Mary (Craig) Bennett and great grandchildren Jazz Bennett, and Tyson, Taya, and C J Coles.
She was an excellent student who enjoyed learning but left school at 8th grade, due to family moving and looking for work. However, in 1977 she earned her GED at Talawanda High School. Serving her church, Farmer’s Market, volunteering at McCullough Hyde gift shop, and election poll presiding judge, were only a few of her labors of love. Her zeal for life, love of beauty, laughter, Miami basketball and family fun, will always be remembered.
She also leaves behind 2 brothers, 5 sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Service will be held on Jan. 28, 2016 in Oxford at Bethel AME Church, 14 S Beech St. with visitation at 10 am followed by service at 12 noon.
