Lee P. Wilkin Obituary

Lee Percy Wilkin was born on June 16, 1932, in LaCrosse Township, Jackson County, Minnesota to the late Frank and Margaret (Schmidt) Wilkin. He received his early education in District #37 in LaCrosse Township and completed his education in the Heron Lake Public Schools. In 1951, Lee started working for the Cottonwood County Highway Department. On August 23, 1953, Lee was united in marriage to Joyce Christensen at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. In 1967, Lee began to work for the City of Windom as the Street Commissioner and in 1970, was employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) on the bridge crew until his retirement in 1990. Lee and Joyce also owned and operated Wilkin Laundry from 1974-1980. Upon his retirement, Lee worked as a handyman around town-painting, repairing, etc. along with building many utility sheds at Lampert Lumber Yard through the years. Recently, Lee’s health had been declining and on Monday, June 25, 2018, he passed away at his home in Windom at the age of 86 years. Lee was a member of the American Lutheran Church and devoted many hours to the church helping to restore it after the fire in 2006. He was also an active member of the IOOF Odd Fellows Lodge 108 in Windom and held all the offices through the years. He was also a board member at the Home for Creative Living for eight years. Lee had many enjoyments in life including being a ham radio operator, KØIKS, since 1957 and talking to other operators all around the world. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, yardwork and flower gardens, playing cards, and creating fabulous wooden memories for many in his workshop. Lee and Joyce traveled to 49 of the 50 states and spent 15 winters in Mesa, Arizona and 5 in Texas. They also enjoyed square dancing together. Most of all Lee enjoyed the time with family and friends. Lee is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Joyce Wilkin of Windom; two daughters, JoAnn and Bruce Russenberger of Trimont; Sandi and Ross Kroeber of Woodbury; six grandchildren, Jarrett Schulze, Stacy Schulze, Steven Porter, Cameron Porter, KaLeigh Russenberger and Tori Russenberger; four great-grandchildren, David, Landon, Morgan and Heidi; sister, Mae Ysker of Mountain Lake; sister-in-law, Maxine Wilkin of Virginia Beach, VA; brother-in-law, Arthur Christensen of Windom; sisters-in-law, June Richardson of Windom; Doris Anschutz of Windom; and Mary Utech of Morris, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Lee is preceded in death by his daughter, Patty; two brothers, Ray and Jack Wilkin; sisters, Lois Acton, Dorothy Heern, and Joy Hunter; and great-grandson, Collin Schulze.
