Robert "Bob" Shannon Obituary

Robert “Bob” Shannon, 81, of Carrollton, Illinois, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at his home

with his daughter and grandsons by his side.

Born in Carrollton on October 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Harland and Irene (Logan)

Shannon.


After graduation from high school, Bob enlisted in the United State Navy and had the honor of

being named “Outstanding Recruit”. He began work at McDonnell Douglas (later Boeing) as an

Aerospace Mechanic and Welder in 1966 and worked there until his retirement in 1999.

He married Sherryl Trusty on May 28, 1966 and they shared 54 happy years together until her

death in August of 2020.


Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Doug Wagner of Jerseyville; two grandsons

who he was very proud of and helped take care of him in his final days, Drake (Paige)

Kanallakan and Dax Kanallakan of Jerseyville. A sister Judy (David) Gonzales of White Rock,

NM, brother-in-law Dean Walker of Greenfield, and brother-in-law Terry (Vickie) Trusty of

Carrollton. Several nieces and nephews Sherry (Mike) Kinser, Scott (Anne) Walker, Jan (Ron)

Plogger, Lori McAdams, Amber Ford, Mark (Andrea) Gonzales, Carrie (Jonathan) Atencio and

Matt (Susanne) Trusty. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Walker.

Bob was a member of the Eldred American Legion and served as past Commander and

Financial Officer. He also took great pride in being a member of the Honor Guard and served as

its Financial Officer as well. Bob served on the VAC committee and was instrumental in bringing

the Veteran’s Wall of Honor to Carrollton.


He loved spending time with his wife, Sherryl, at their cabin on the Mississippi River for 47 years

fishing with his buddy, Bill Knop, working in his shop, taking bus trips and being an annual cook

for the St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Levee.


Visitation will be Monday, April 29 from 4 to 7 at Airsman Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton,

where funeral services will also be held on Tuesday, April 30 at 10 am. Burial will follow at

Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors.


In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be made to Eldred American Legion or the Honor

Guard.
