Karen Lee (Longenberger) Kalie, 63, of Shickshinny, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at her home.


Born December 17, 1960 in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Lowell Longenberger and Bonnie (Golla) Thomas.


A graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1979, she was employed as a banker at First Keystone Community Bank in Berwick.


Mrs. Kalie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Berwick, the VFW Auxiliary, the Shickshinny American Legion Auxiliary, and Shickshinny Blue Star Mothers of NEPA. She founded the Veterans Education Tours Program in 2017 and assisted with various other veterans’ organizations and events. Karen was also an avid reader.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Carl Mark Kalie, who died February 14, 2023; and two brothers: Byron Longenberger and Lowell Longenberger, Jr.


Karen is survived by her son, Mark Kalie, currently serving in the United States Air Force in Japan; her daughter, Megan Kalie, residing at home; her brother, Daniel Longenberger and his wife, Heidi, of Rincon, GA; and two sisters: her twin, Kim, wife of John McDonald, of Lynnville, IN, and Lisa, wife of Michael Lorenz, of Cincinnati, OH.


A visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 77 N. Main Street, Shickshinny. An additional visitation will be held Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1730 Fowler Ave., Berwick, with Rev. William T. Barbee, her pastor, and Rev. Francis J. Tamburro, retired pastor, officiating.


Interment will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with her husband.


Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research or to Wreaths Across America.


Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., Shickshinny.
