Peggy was born August 15, 1948 in Fort Dodge, IA as firstborn to William and Arlene Jensen. She grew up in Humboldt, IA. She developed her caretaker heart at a young age, always helping with her five younger siblings. Sacrifice was something Peggy knew well and continued to do her entire life.
Peggy met her husband, Russell, through friends. They were married on July 2, 1966. Their first born son, Michael Lee, entered the world in 1967 and Peggy cherished the short time she and Russ had with him. Over the next few years, they welcomed their daughter, Shelley, and son, William (Bill), and lived in Charles City, IA.
While her kids were young, Peggy humbly took on the role as breadwinner for her family when her husband became physically injured and could no longer work. While not only handling the demands of being a mother and a wife, Peggy acquired her bachelor’s degree from Hamilton Business College. This ultimately led to her career of 22 years working at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in the Data Processing department.
Her free time was spent with family, often camping, traveling with friends, enjoying her kids and her grandkids. She loved gathering with her extended family for reunions and weekend get-togethers. Her role was cooking and cleaning, and she always had a camera with film so pictures could be taken.
Peggy enjoyed DIY projects and spent time collecting things for “someday” projects. She had an eye for design and was great at organizing. She enjoyed listening to the BeeGees and it was something she bonded with her grandchildren over. Her family saw her as a hard worker and a wealth of knowledge. She always knew the right thing to say and gave the tightest hugs. Peggy’s love knew no bounds, even as tragedy and hardships hit her family more than once. She never once complained about the sacrifices she had to make for the people she loved. Later in life, Peggy developed a love for animals, even providing a loving home for their grand dogs who loved them just as much.
The mind may steal memories, but even up to the end, it never took Peggy’s love and compassion she had for others.
Peggy is survived by her son William (Michelle) Mullen of Mason City; daughter Shelley (Sheldon) Pahnisch of Nashua; brothers: Richard (Debbie) Jensen of Texas and Paul (Donna) Jensen of North Carolina; sisters: Connie (Brad) Eller of Montezuma and Kathy Sorensen of Bloomfield; sister-in-law Gena Jensen of Texas; grandchildren: Andrew, Makenzie, Ashley, Samantha, Joseph, and Max; great-grandchildren: Talan, Finlee, and Bryson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Arlene (Grohe Jensen; husband Russell Mullen; son Michael Lee Mullen; brothers: John and Steven Jensen; and baby boy Pahnisch.
