Jeanne C. Hess Obituary

Jeanne C. Hess, 94, of West Hartford, CT, formerly of Mansfield, OH, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Prior to moving to Connecticut in 2021, Jeanne had resided in Mansfield, and Galion, OH for many years.

Jeanne leaves behind her daughter April Parsons of West Hartford, CT; son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Christine Christopher of Bolton, CT; grandchildren Evan (Betsy) Parsons of Farmington, CT, Jennifer and Joseph Christopher of Bolton, CT; as well as many special nieces and nephews, her friend Sharon Tigh, and Gladys. Jeanne is predeceased by her husband Rev. Dr. Claire H. Hess; her sons Arn and Timothy Christopher; and her daughter Joy Kay Christopher.

Jeanne was born December 30, 1929, in Newark, OH to John and Hazel Patterson. In her young adult years, Jeanne lived a quiet and unassuming life as a housewife and mother to her special needs daughter Joy Kay, as well as three adopted children (April, Timothy, Matthew) who were brought to the United States from Korea via Holt International Adoption. When she didn't have her hands full with the children, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, painting and anything arts and crafts; she especially loved OSU Buckeyes football! Jeanne loved spending her summers at The Popcorn Palace, located in Lakeside OH - named after the families’ traditional Sunday night meal of popcorn and Walt Disney.

In her senior years, Jeanne stayed busy as a volunteer at Galion Community Hospital, Galion Public Library, and the Brush and Palette Art Association. As Jeanne became unable to live independently, she relocated to Connecticut to be closer to her children April and Mathew. Jeanne will be remembered for her positivity and kindness.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Chatfield-Clare Bridge for their love, kindness, and care of Jeanne during her final days.

A memorial service will be held on Friday April 19, at 10AM in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Chapel and interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH.
