Doris Thompson McGirt Webster, 95, passed away peacefully at home April 11, 2024. Born September 12, 1928, Doris was a lifelong resident of Rowland, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Thompson and Alice Jones Thompson, as well as her sisters: Frances Thompson Aycock, Betty Jean Thompson Pallone and Mary Thompson Sellers. Doris was married to Rudolph McGirt until his death in 1989 and together they had three sons: Robert McGirt (Sharon) of Waxhaw, NC, David McGirt of the home and Charles McGirt (Anne) of Fort Mill, SC. In 1991, Doris married Guy Woodall Webster of Rowland and enjoyed twenty years of happiness until his death in 2011.

In addition to her sons, Doris is survived by one grandson Kris McGirt (Sherri) of Waxhaw, NC, one granddaughter, Jada Serio (Michael) of Charlotte, NC, and three great grandchildren, Wyatt, Jesse and Lillie Kate McGirt. Doris is also survived by her step daughter, Glynn Drewery of Coahoma, TX, nieces and nephews as well as three cousins: Betty Ann Inman Floyd of Fairmont, NC, Pauline Inman Hudson of Greenville, NC and Anna Margaret Inman Overman of Tuscan, AZ.

Born in the Depression era, Doris developed a positive work ethic early in life. She delivered newspapers for the Charlotte Observer in Rowland, worked for Bell Telephone Company in Laurinburg, earned a Licensed Practical Nursing degree at Sandhills Community College and was a career employee of the US Post Office in Rowland until her retirement.

Doris was a devoted member of the Rowland Presbyterian Church and Ashpole Presbyterian Church. The family has planned a private interment and requests that any memorials be made to the Ashpole Memorial Fund. Memorials can be mailed to Ashpole Presbyterian Church PO Box 759 Rowland, NC 28383.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Betty Oxendine of Rowland, NC, Angel Stanley of Dillon, SC and Jennifer King of Latta, SC for the love, laughter and fond memories shared while caring for Doris. We would also like to thank Scotland Regional Hospice in Laurinburg, NC for their support.
