BASTROP, LOUISIANA



Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Lola Kay Stutts will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Bonita Road Baptist Church with Bro. Casey Johnson officiating.   Committal services and burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.


The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon until time for services on Thursday, April 11th, at Bonita Road Baptist Church.


Mrs. Lola Stutts was born Rayville, Louisiana on February 7, 1935 to the late Vera Thornton Self and William Self.   She passed away peacefully, with her children by her side, on April 8, 2024 at Lagniappe Health and Rehab in Bastrop, Louisiana.   Along with her parents Ms. Lola is preceded in death by her husband Sidney Coleman Stutts, a brother Lynn Self, sister-in-law Donna Self, and brothers-in-law Clayton "Red" Miller and Gerald McGaha.  


Mrs. Stutts was raised in a Christian home and made her profession to her Lord and Savior at an early age.   Her family were talented singers and she was a member of the family quartet.  They could be heard performing  over their  local radio show.  Ms. Lola was attended Bonita Road Baptist Church and a practiced nursing at both Morehouse General Hospital and the Bastrop International Paper Mill.  She also worked alongside Dr. Ed Chorette and Dr. Robert Lyon in their medical offices. 


Mrs. Stutts is survived by her daughter Debbie McLeod and her husband, Donnie, and her son Allen Stutts and his wife, Phyllis.   She is also survived by three grandchildren, Ashley McLeod, Alana Nash and husband Brad, and Trevor Stutts and wife Miah;  three great grandchildren, Davin McLeod, Dash McLeod, and Cohen McLeod;  two sisters, Bobbie Miller and Barbara McGaha;  two brothers, Billy Ray Self and wife Trink, and Raymond Self ; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Serving as pallbearers are Trevor Stutts, Ashley McLeod, Davin McLeod, Brad Nash, Terry Hale, Spencer Hughes, and Darwin Miller.   


The family wishes to extend a special "thank-you" to the nurses and staff at Lagniappe Healthcare for the their care and support for "Mrs. Smiley"  during her residence there.
