Loran Norman Cannon Obituary

Norman Loran Cannon went to be with our Lord, at the age of 84 on April 2nd, 2024. He was the son of Helena Rackley Cannon and Cluster Lee Cannon and was born July 9, 1939, in Ida, Arkansas.

He spent his younger years growing up in Ida and in the Drasco communities, spending long periods of time with his loving grandparents, Noah and Lura Cannon. His education started in the one room school at Drasco and attended there from kindergarten to sixth grade. In 1958 he graduated from Concord High School.

Norman married Alma Jean Southerland in 1959, and they moved out of state. Three years later Norman was drafted into the Army and spent 13 months in Korea. He served as a Military Policeman, and when he came home he worked as a Quality Control Engineer.

Norman and Alma bought a place in Drasco and built a house. They then welcomed 2 children, Leigh Ann and Larry. They have made Drasco their home and have resided there for the last 50 years. Norman was a quality control manager for a couple of manufacturing plants for 46 years.

Norman was of the General Baptist faith and was a long standing deacon. He was a Mason for over 50 years. He was a member of the ASQC organization of Arkansas. He loved to hunt, killed an Elk, and watch Westerns.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Noah and Lura Cannon and Arlie and Blanche Rackley, his parents Helena and Cluster, an infant brother, Bobby Don Cannon, and brother Nolan Cannon, and his step father, George Rooney.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Alma, daughter, Leigh Ann Bird of Drasco, Arkansas, his son, Larry Cannon (Lynn) of Drasco, Arkansas, and sister in law, Earlene Cannon. He has 4 grandsons, Matthew Bird (Morgan) of Batesville, Arkansas, Mark Bird (Ana) of Conway, Arkansas, Justin Bird of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Zach Durbin of Little Rock. Granddaughters are Lexy and Lindsey Cannon of Drasco, Arkansas, two great-granddaughters, Masyn Crews and Estlee Bird both of Batesville, Arkansas. Nephews are Steven (Kristie) and Marty (Lori) Cannon of Drasco, Arkansas. Neice, Vickie (Scott) Thompson of Calico Rock, Arkansas. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. He will be missed by many.

A visitation will be Friday, April 5, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. With funeral service following at 2:00 PM with pastor Brian Harlan and Malachi Cannon officiating at Drasco General Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are, Steve Cannon, Marty Cannon, Bruce Southerland, Donald Southerland, Jon Raney, and Jordan Turney.

Honorary Pallbearers are, Dan Reppert, Tommy Land, Jim Locke, Paul Williams, Tommy Weaver, Zach Durbin, Matthew Bird, Mark Bird, and Justin Bird.
