James J. Cronin Obituary

James J. Cronin, 83, of Center Township passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011, with his wife by his side, following an extended illness with cancer. Born May 12, 1927, in West Aliquippa, Jim has been a resident of Center Township for 59 years. A son of the late Betty (Luzzi) and John ?Scagg? Cronin, Jim married Gloria (Kugel) on June 21, 1951. He was a World War II veteran in Germany with the 78th Division, 310 Infantry, Company B. A member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where he served on council, Jim also was a life member and past commander for the American Legion Post 580. He enjoyed walleye fishing, camping, travelling and gardening. He was employed by BP Atlantic Richfield as a supervisor from where he retired with 35 years of service. Jim will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Gloria. He also leaves behind to celebrate his life and all that he has taught them: his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Bonnie Cronin and Gary and Janet Cronin; five grandchildren, Jaime and Drew Fredericks, Katie and Aaron Stuck, Chris and Mary Cronin, Stefanie and Joe Brennan and Bryan Cronin. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Bryce and Colin Fredericks, Liam and Eli Stuck, Elizabeth Brennan and Nathan Cronin; three sisters, Rosemarie Fausti of Conway, Peg Dinello of Monaca and Mary Ann (Sam) Presutti of Midland and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 819 Washington Avenue, Monaca. His pastor, Rev. Keith Getz, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. Full military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Stewart Lancaster and his staff and Concordia Visiting Nurses, Vanessa Hartwell, Mary Horzempa and Jean Flint. We would also like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice caregivers, Heather Nevill, Beth Ann Enders, Laura Surowka, Sister Pat Prince and Carol Yakish for all their loving care during the last few months.
