Paul Snyder, 92, of Monaca, a devoted father and husband, passed away Sunday evening, July 12, 2009, in Heritage Valley Beaver. Born January 30, 1917, in Somerset, he was a son of the late John and Rose (Bertt) Snyder. Paul was married to the late Jennie Popko Snyder who preceded him in death in 1981. Retired from Vasco Teledyne (now Allegheny Technologies), Paul was a member and past officer of the United Steelworkers of America. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and also held memberships at the Coronet Bandroom, Sons of Italy and the former Eagles Club, all of Monaca. He was an avid sports fan, particularly his devoted Steelers. In his younger years, Paul played both amateur baseball and softball. He looked forward to family picnics and spending his leisure time fishing. He leaves a son, James Snyder and his wife, Donna, of Harrisburg; a daughter, Karen Riles and her husband, Darryl, of Aiken, SC; two brothers, Steve Snyder and his wife, Elizabeth, of Monaca and Michael Snyder and his wife, Betty, of El Paso, TX; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joseph (Catherine) Snyder of Brighton Township, Mrs. Frank (Mildred) Snyder of Monaca, Mrs. John (Mildred) Snyder of Ann Arbor, MI and Virginia Swink of Monaca, and several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Steve Snyder and his wife, Mary Kay, of Monaca and Thomas Snyder and his wife, Patrice, of Oak Ridge, TN. In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy, in 1940; seven brothers, James, Phillip, Joseph, Peter, George, John and Frank, and a brother-in-law, Henry Popko. Friends will be received Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of prayers at 9:30 a.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724-728-4000). A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Father John McKenna will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
