Grace G. Swager Obituary

Grace “Betty” Growall Hammond Swager, 96, Born August 14, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA. Betty went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 26, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Eunice Lane Phillips (Ernest) and Martin Growall, her husband Joseph Fredrick Swager and a son, Kurt Fredrick Swager. She is survived by two daughters, E. Christine Marazzi Mooney (Miles), JoEllen Shatlock (Jay), 9 grand- children: Grace K Patterson, Mary Beth Norkus (Robert), Thomas L Patterson, Jr, E. Jane Maxwell (Jim), Jay Shatlock (Mary), Jonathan Shatlock (Colleen), Jessica Hanna (Bobby), Jael Shatlock, Jason Shatlock (Alona). 16 Great grandchildren Sarah, Victoria and Elizabeth Deluliis, Claire, Lily, Mary Kate, Carolina and James Maxwell, Justus, Jaylon, Aurora, Zacchaeus and Leilani Shatlock, Jadon, James and Zoe Hanna. Betty grew up in New Brighton and was a resident of Center Twp for approximately 60 years. She was retired from a commissioned sales position with Sears Department Stores Furniture Department, where she was their top sales person in a male dominated field. She was very active in the local art community, holding office in AVAC, Beaver Valley Art League and Merrick Art Gallery. In her young years, she dabbled with drawing with India ink switching to oil, then acrylic and settling with her passion, water color painting. She taught various work- shops and also taught weekly classes in her home with her beloved, longtime, water color students until she was 90 years old. She felt everyone had artistic talent and they just needed a little encouragement to bring it to fruition. While the community may know her as a talented artist and instructor, we, her family, know her as a dedi- cated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We thank God that we have been blessed with her as the matriarch of our family. Friends will be received on Sunday, October 31st from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. Private interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
