Karen Ann Miller left this world to be at peace in the presence of the Lord the morning of September 12, 2014, after a prolonged and courageous battle with diabetes and cancer. She was 69.Karen was born in McKeesport on July 1, 1945, and was the daughter of Laura Marksteiner and the late Albert Marksteiner, and the sister of the late Joseph A. Marksteiner.In addition to her mother, Karen is survived by her beloved partner of over 27 years, James (Jim) McKelvey, two sons, James W. (Aileen) Miller and Daniel A. (Nikenna) Miller; a daughter, Lori E. Mosura; five grandchildren, Shane, Stephanie, Benjamin, Garrett and Christopher. She is also survived by her beloved pets, two cats, Chance and Mango and her dog Heidi-Ann.Karen was a graduate of McKeesport Area Vocational Technical High School and had moved to Monaca, Pennsylvania, in 1983 to start a new life and job as a Nurses Aide. She was retired from a nearly 20-year career at Friendship Ridge (formerly the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center) and enjoyed spending time with her cats, watching lots of movies and TV, going to the flea market in Rogers, Ohio, and the music of Elvis Presley. She especially enjoyed sharing quality time with her partner, James (Jim) McKelvey, when he would play guitar and sing; playing with her grandchildren and visiting her family in Virginia. Karen was a loving mother, a devoted partner, an independent spirit and a caring friend with an abundance of love, who always sacrificed her needs for others.A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca on Monday, September 15th, at 10 a.m. Entombment will take place at The New St. Joseph Cemetery, in North Versailles.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West Station Square Drive, Suite 1900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219; the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Rd, Monaca, PA 15061; or the American Cancer Society, P.O.
