Norma Jean Gillin Obituary

Norma Jean \”Jeannie\” Houser Gillin, 63, formerly of Monaca, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Kindred Hospital Heritage Valley. Born Sept. 8, 1944, in Rochester, a daughter of the late David \”Dick\” R. and Eva K. (Shively) Houser. Jeannie was a beautician in Monaca Heights for a number of years and later gained employment at the Medical Center, Beaver, from where she retired. She was a member of VanKirk Lutheran Church, Center Township, and a group known as the Moon Beams at the church. She was a graduate of Monaca High School. The Flying Finn Family Campground in East Palestine, Ohio was an enjoyable spot for Jeannie to relax and her home was a welcome place where family and friends enjoyed her cooking and hospitality. She leaves her husband of 47 years, Elmer E. Gillin; four sons, Tom Gillin of Lancaster; Tim Gillin, U.S. Air Force retired of Annapolis, Md.; Dennis Gillin and his wife, Dawn of Beaver and Don Gillin of Bethesda, Md.; two beloved granddaughters, Amanda and Alaina. One of eight children, she also leaves her brothers and sisters, Donald (Joyce) Houser of Richardson, Texas; Martha Houser of Monaca; Janet (Allen) Dalton, Ohioville; David (Shari) Houser of Chico, Calif.; Dennis (Roberta) Houser of Monaca and Sue (Rick) Yardic of Bridgewater, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald R. Houser. Friends will be received Friday, June 20, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724-728-4000). Friends may also call on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon at the VanKirk Lutheran Church, VanKirk Rd., Monaca. Her pastor, the Rev. A. Patrice Weirick will officiate. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Monaca. Rather than flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Simpson Funeral & Cremation Service to defray expenses.
