James R. Parsons Obituary

James Rankin Parsons Sr., age 78, of Bethany, OK., passed from this life, March 21, 2024. James was born in Lexington, KY., September 17, 1945, to the late Herman G. Parsons and Stella “Rankin” Parsons.

In addition to his father and mother, James is preceded in death by sister, Peggy Parsons McKenzie and brother, Jackie Parsons.

James is survived by his loving wife, Angela “Wilson” Parsons; cherished daughters, Leigh Ann Mercury, Mariesha Chiles (Anthony), Ambrasha Zotigh (Andrew), Anna Parsons (Darius); caring sons, James “Jim” Parsons Jr (Tracy) and Caleb Amir Parsons; sisters, Betty Gatson (Nelson), Billie Short (Ronnie). Grandchildren: Travis, Anthony Jr., Jordan, Alea, Amiyah, Asher and Olivia and countless other family members & friends.

James was a Sargent in the United States Air Force, he served during the Vietnam War stationed in Taiwan, Thailand, and Korea. He was proud to be an American Veteran and considered serving his country as an important accomplishment in his life. He was very proud of his lifelong career in the food service industry which started with his chosen career in the United States Air Force.

Other important things to James included his time spent with family, raising his children and his marriage of 40 years to the love of his life. He was a gentle man with a kind soul who was always selfless, open-minded, respectful, and thoughtful of others. He believed and lived by “you could be tough as nails and still be a gentleman.”

James spent endless hours volunteering by serving others in the community, through church ministries and making a difference in the lives of the disenfranchised. His greatest wish was to represent God in his actions and behaviors so that others would know Christ through him. When he wasn’t serving others, he was praying for them.

He loved to laugh and tell “Dad Jokes”, he loved unconditionally and accepted all regardless of where they were in their life’s journey. He enjoyed University of Kentucky sports, fishing, hunting, music, being outdoors, traveling and any time he could have with his children, nieces and nephews.

He was a simple man and appreciated a simple life with an endless love for those he cared about and a deep love that few could ever grasp.

James will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
