<p>Gwendolyn Shaw, “Poochie”, 81, A loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Poochie entered into eternal peace on Saturday, March 30, 2024, in McKinney, Texas. Poochie was born on July 24, 1942, in Cairo, Illinois to the late Rev. Wille V. Williams and Willa Mae White (Brown). Her life was a testament to the power of love, positivity, the strength of family bonds, and the joy of genuine connections. </p><p>She married her high school sweetheart, Alex Dempsey Dozier. Their 14-year union produced 3 children: Debra, Alex, Jr (Phil) and Robin. </p><p>On July 31,1970, she married Ernest Shaw, the love of her life and her best friend. Ernest and Gwen’s 39-year union was a testament to the enduring power of “true love” enriched by shared laughter, cherished memories, and a unwavering mutual support for each other. They experienced a love in life that others could only dream of. </p><p>&nbsp;Poochie’s spiritual journey began at an early age at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Her deeply rooted faith was inspired and cultivated by her father, Rev. Willie V. Williams. Her walk with Christ continued at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lee H. Montgomery, Jr. She served her church community with joy and grace contributing her talents to the choir and her participation in various auxiliaries. </p><p>In her professional life, Poochie was employed by Bendix Corporation for 25 years. Following her time at Bendix, she joined the marketing team at Sam’s Club in Mishawaka IN, Sam’s Club was more than just a “job”. Poochie found her true calling! Her magnetic personality and smile left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of crossing her path. She retired from Sam’s Club in 2010 and relocated to Dallas, Texas, accompanied by her beloved poodle, Spirit to be closer to her children. </p><p>Poochie’s legacy lives on through her devoted daughters: Debra Safforld (Torrance), Robin Coleman (Michael), Christine Shaw (Amos), Diane Kemp (Walt), and Brenda Shaw. Sons- Frank Shaw, Larry Shaw and Ernest, Jr. Though her son Alex Dozier proceeded her in death, his memory remains a treasured part of the family tapestry, a testament to the enduring bond of love and kinship. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Conner Coleman of Frisco, Tx, Sheldon Page of San Antonio, Tx, Antonio Lacy of (Nevada), Dominic Alston (Nashville TN), Nakeysha Dozier, Ivan Blount, Monique Shaw and Twana Shaw all of South Bend, a special great granddaughter Emmary Knox of South Bend, a special niece, Carmen Davis and a host of other great-grandchildren: 3 sisters- Barbara Thompson, Kay Brown-Smith (Luther), Margo Johnson (Vernon), 2 brothers- Gregory Brown-Knox and Jeffrey Brown. </p><p>&nbsp;Preceding her in death along with her parents; Sons- Alex Dozier, Jr, Gary Shaw, Perry Shaw, Granddaughter- Ni’Keya Alston-Harton, and a very special brother, NC Coleman (Ba-Bro). Gwen will be welcomed in heaven by the 3 most important men in her life: Her father, Willie V Williams, her husband, Ernest Shaw and her son Alex Dozier (Phil). Poochie was loved by many, and she will be truly missed! </p><p>Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, In 46619. Funeral services for Poochie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Rhema Word International Outreach, 802 E.
