Dr. Vincent Daniel McCormick Obituary

Dr. Vincent Daniel McCormick, 82, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024 of heart related issues at UCSF Medical Center Parnassus with family by his side.

Vince was born June 24, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Vincent Patrick and Jane Elizabeth (Coffey) McCormick. The oldest of five children, Vince grew up in Ozark, MO and went to grade and high school in Springfield, MO. Vince attended St. Louis University for undergraduate and medical school where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. While there, he met his loving wife Saundra Jane (Will) McCormick. Vince and Saundra had three children: Kelley, Kevin and Brian. In 1969 they moved their young family to San Francisco, CA where Vince completed his residency and fellowship in radiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He then moved to Modesto, CA where he entered into private practice. It was there where Vince and Saundra were fortunate to have made so many life-long friends. After 19 years, Vince returned to UCSF full-time where he was a Clinical Professor. Throughout his professional career Vince was invited to give numerous presentations and lectures, was a member of the Radiologic Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society and served as president of the San Francisco Radiologic Society. An engaging mentor and teacher, Vince was awarded both the Hideyo Minagi Outstanding Teaching Award and the Outstanding Clinical Faculty Teaching Award at UCSF.

A true renaissance man, Vince lived his life to the fullest. He traveled the world with Saundra, trekked in faraway lands, was an avid downhill and telemark skier and loved to windsurf in the Bay. A gourmet cook, he and Saundra enjoyed entertaining. His wide ranging interests included textiles, classical and jazz music, reading, hiking and foraging for mushrooms. He was especially passionate about tending to his garden of bromeliads and succulents. An involved and doting grandfather, he was most proud of his six grandchildren and did not miss an opportunity to attend one of their sporting events, dance performances or music concerts.

He is survived by his wife, Saundra; their children: Kelley (Mark Vincent), Kevin (Kimmy Carter) and Brian (Lara Long McCormick); his grandchildren: Nathaniel and Charlotte Vincent and Stefano, Jack, Elle and Finley McCormick; his siblings: Judith Scalley of Atlanta, GA, Virginia McCormick of Springfield, MO, Timothy McCormick of Kansas City, MO and Sheila McCormick of Amherst, MA; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Vince was a truly wonderful person who will be remembered for his intelligence, his wit and his caring nature. He is dearly missed.

A celebration of Vince’s life will be held in June. Donations in his memory may be sent to Gardens of Golden Gate Park. (gggp.org/donate)
