Susan Kay Werschky Obituary

Susan Kay Werschky

Sue Werschky, age 83, lovingly known by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Susu,” was born on Christmas Day 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Louis Lemak, Jr. and Helen Fay (Olver) Lemak. She departed this world on Resurrection Sunday (Easter) 2024, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis where she was rehabilitating after a hospital stay.

Sue was one of a kind! A devout Christian and prayer warrior, she was a great example of God’s overwhelming love to her family and friends for generations. She was known for her extravagant generosity, and for being one of the sweetest women ever - always having a kind word and time for everyone.

Sue was happily married to her high school sweetheart, Lawrence (Larry) Werschky for 46 years until his death in 2006, and had 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She attended the University of Michigan for two years and Wayne State University for two years, where she graduated with a degree in music. She was known for her exceptional singing voice and loved performing in musicals. She was an elementary school music teacher for one year, but then was thrilled to stay home and raise children. Life was an adventure for the Werschky family, resulting in them residing in Colorado, Texas, California, Oregon, Minnesota, and Kentucky before returning to their home state of Michigan in 1985. Through the years she worked alongside her husband Larry in many of his business ventures. After the children were raised, she worked in his medical practice, doing all his medical transcription. Sue and Larry loved spending time in the Upper Peninsula, flying and discovering new restaurants together.

Sue loved spending time with family and friends, playing board games and cards, boating around Lake Templene, eating meals together, watching Michigan football and having coffee chats. She was known for her tremendous hospitality. She especially loved serving sweets, her favorite dessert being Yoder’s raspberry cream pie! She also loved reading, playing the piano, hosting family events, doing Bible studies and watching Hallmark movies and Murder She Wrote.

Sue is survived by her children: daughter Amy (Tim) Sivils, of Three Rivers, Michigan; daughter Aly (Rick) Yohn of Winter Garden, Florida; son Andy Werschky, of Destin, Florida; and son Tony (Lisa) Werschky, of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren: TJ (Lindsey) Ceravolo, Tony (Lori) Ceravolo, Charlie (Miriam) Sivils, Abby (Kyle) Whitlow, Will (Mary Ellen) Sivils, Mary Emma Sivils, Andy (Lindsey) Sivils, Anna (Caleb) Schmidt, Isabella Werschky, Ben (Lillie) Werschky, Caleb Werschky, Alex Werschky, Ellie Sivils, Lauren Werschky, Emi Werschky, Bethany Werschky, Luke Werschky and Leah Werschky, and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Louie Lemak and brother-in-law Bob (MaryAnn) Werschky, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry and her son Tex.

Sue was a great example of a godly woman, a loving wife and mother, and a kind and gentle spirit. She leaves a beautiful legacy of love for her family and friends. Rest in peace, beloved Susu.
