Myrna Nelson

Myrna (Cass) Nelson, 85, of Stuart passed away June 9, 2018 at the Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a latter date. Online condolences may be left a www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Myrna was born June 11, 1932 in Rural Stuart to Edwin and Jennie (Jane) Smith-Cass. She grew up in Bridgewater and graduated from Bridgewater High School with the class of 1951. While in high school she enjoyed playing basketball and was active with the Glee Club and the B-Club. Following graduation she was united in marriage to Robert Dean Nelson in 1953 in Dexter and together they became the proud parents of five children, Robert (Kim), Deb, Tina, Andy, and Alveda. Following their marriage they lived on a farm outside of Dexter, where she and her husband farmed until moving to South Dakota when Robert took a job as a ranch hand. They spent several months in South Dakota before moving back to the Stuart area. Myrna was employed as a cook at Truck Haven in Stuart until she moved to Jefferson and LeMars, Iowa to manage a Truck Haven there. In 1998, she moved back to the area and was employed at the Menlo Café. She loved the café and all the customers, which she referred to as family. Myrna was a proud cancer survivor of Lymphoma, which she was diagnosed with in 2006 and after a yearlong battle was placed in remission in 2007. Myrna enjoyed her flower garden, butterflies, working at the Menlo Café and spending time with her family and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 daughters, Kristina (Tina) Nelson and Debra Nelson- Spinden, son, Robert Nelson , granddaughter, Hilary, great grandson, Aadyn, brother, Harold Cass and 2 sisters, Ruby Eddy and Linda Cass. Myrna leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Alveda Nelson and wife Kim of Puyallap, Washington; son, Andrew Nelson of Stuart, Iowa; sisters, Francis Stanley of Creston, Iowa and Betty Weinheimer; brother, Dean Cass and his wife Karen of Fontanelle, Iowa and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
