Janice Marie Bowers Barnhill Obituary

Janice Marie Bowers Barnhill, age 82, of Morristown, formally of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2024 at Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville following a sudden illness. Born November 4, 1941 in Johnson City, TN and then moved to Knoxville at an early age where she met and married Robert Barnhill, Jr. in 1963. Janice retired from the Knox County School System after 25 years of service at Carter Elementary School where she was affectionately know as Ms. Janice, and enjoyed life on the farm spending time with her daughter and grandson. Upon the death of her husband, Janice moved to Morristown to be closer to her daughter and grandson. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, working in her flower beds, visiting with family and volunteering in her daughter’s school classroom. Janice touched many hearts in her lifetime and educational career and will be truly missed. She had a sweet spirit and never met a stranger. Her heart radiated with love for her family and friends. 


 She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Barnhill, Jr.; parents, Smith and Luella Bowers; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Nell Barnhill, Sr.; special aunts, Betty Smith and Sue Vines; and special uncle, Howell Bowers.


 Survivors include, daughter, Tanya Barnhill Wolfenbarger of Morristown; grandson, Ezekiel “Zeke” Wolfenbarger of Whitesburg; several nieces, nephews, and special friends. 


 Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff of Fort Sanders Regional Hospital ER Department, Heart Group and Cardiovascular Unit nurses and staff for their dedication and care.


The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Bridges Funeral Home, followed by the service at 7:00 PM with Rev. Lenny Smith officiating. The Jarnigan Family is honored to be able to share their musical talents with singing. Family and friends will meet 10:45 AM, Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Eastview Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 AM interment. Pallbearers: Ezekiel Wolfenbarger, Randy Merritt, Troy Wallen, Steve Fitzgerald, Lenny Smith, and Carroll Watts.
