Arvilla J. Kotwitz Obituary

Janesville-Arvilla J. (Merrick) Kotwitz, age 98, passed away at Rock Haven on March 25, 2024. She was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, on December 13, 1925; the daughter of William and Elsie (Kroup) Merrick. Arvilla married Harold Kotwitz in New Orleans in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1976. They were blessed with two sons.

She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her faith was very important to her and she instilled her values in her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted mother/grandmother. If you ever met Arvilla, she had a smile on her face and could make you laugh. She was an avid reader, shopper, loved her chocolate, enjoyed cheering on the Packers and watching golf. In her younger years she could be found on the golf course caddying for her husband. During World War II, she was also a federal inspector of artillery shells at the GM plant. She formed lifelong friends while working at Bishops Buffet in the Janesville mall. She also volunteered for the Mercy Hospital Auxilary.

Arvilla is survived by her two sons, Larry (Mary) Kotwitz and Jerry Hawk; Three grandchildren: Eric (Brenda) Kotwitz, Jon (Cristol) Kotwitz and Alicia (Nickolas) Hammon; Five great grandchildren: Ariana (Tim) Risen, Mike Kotwitz, Scarlett Hammon, Lincoln and Jaxon Kotwitz; 1 great-great grandchild, Madison Risen; many special nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, siblings and parents.

A special thanks to the amazing staff at Rock Haven nursing home for their wonderful care and Agrace Hospice, especially Erin, Morgan and Ashley, as well as the special volunteers that brought a little sunshine to her day. We are forever grateful to Dr. Hussli for her enduring and compassionate care. Her visits meant so much to Arvilla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Oak Hill Cemetery. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.
