Richard H. Vandenack Obituary

Richard H. Vandenack, 74 of Marinette, Wisconsin unexpectedly passed away March 11, 2024 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on August 29, 1949 to the late Henry and Fern (Stillman) Vandenack.

Rick graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1967 and attended Michigan Tech University. On August 31, 1968 he married Patricia Peterson, a 55 year adventure that lasted until Rick’s passing. They spent most of their life in Peshtigo until moving to Marinette in 2004 settling into their cherished home by the river.

Rick was employed at Badger Paper Mills for over 30 years and ended his career at Resolute Forest Products.

Life before grandkids saw Rick enjoy duck hunting, ice fishing, building anything and everything and being an avid member of the Peshtigo Gun Club. He was integral in the building of the current club house and was especially proud of the fireplace he and Jack Brazeau built.

The arrival of grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to Rick’s life, and he wholeheartedly dedicated himself to spending time with them. Whether cheering at track meets, basketball games, baseball games, football games, wrestling matches, hockey rinks, or band concerts, Rick and Pat were unwavering in their support for their three grandsons. They also immersed themselves in cultural events, attending band/choir concerts and play productions with “Mama Mia” being Rick’s favorite, to cheer on their granddaughter. And outside of supporting all of the activities, he was sharing his love of ice fishing, his animosity for the geese and chipmunks in his yard, or something in between. Rick’s unwavering presence and support made him the #1 fan and supporter of his four grandchildren, leaving them with cherished memories and invaluable life lessons.

After retirement he and Pat discovered a love for travel. Exploring destinations like Vegas, Branson and Fort Walton Beach in just the last year along with numerous trips to Mackinac Island and Door County. He also enjoyed tending to his yard and pontoon boat rides along the river with Pat and their faithful companion, Bichon.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Pat; loving children, Tina (Kelly) Barnes of Athelstane and Tim (Paige) Vandenack of Coleman; and adoring grandchildren McKenna Carvenough, Jordan Carvenough, Cody Vandenack and Kyle Vandenack.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brothers Robert Neumann and Thomas Neumann.

In keeping with Rick’s wishes, a private family service will be held, with burial to take place at Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo. Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home is assisting the family.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr Shah, along with ICU nurses Sara & Sierra, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay for their exceptional care of Rick.
