Tommy McWhorter was born on December 27th in the year, 1949, and went to heaven on March 23rd, 2024 at 1:17 P.M. He was preceded in death by his father, Buel Dorman McWhorter and mother, Mary Lillian (Martin) McWhorter; sisters, Ella M. Lewis, Geraldine "Gerri" Hoppe, Louise Redmon, Opal "Zytte" Ferguson, and Bobbie Ann Souther. He is survived by his wife, Shiela Grisham McWhorter; brother, David McWhorter (wife, Diane); sons, Thomas McWhorter (wife, Mellisa) and William Buel McWhorter (his love, Kacy); grandchildren, Callie, Tripp, Jamie, Rian, and Brodie; one great-grandchild on-the-way; numerous nieces and nephews, and lifelong family friend, Ette Pearl Rush.
Tommy was born and raised in Madison County in a rural area south of North Zulch. After graduating from North Zulch High School, Tommy attended Blinn College before getting married and starting a career at CRC as an Automatic Welding Supervisor, traveling around the world through 15 countries, 5 continents, and 5 seas. Tommy then returned home to take care of his family and run the family ranch. His greatest joy was his sons, family, and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending every event possible for his sons and grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, hunter with both gun and camera, and domino player. Tommy was a self-professed hermit, who loved being around family and friends. His generosity and understanding knew no bounds. Above all, he loved his wife with all of his heart and cherished every moment with her.
A funeral service for Tommy will be at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, March 28, 2024 at First Baptist Church in North Zulch, Texas. Bro. Dean Ferguson and Bro. Matt Murray will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Willowhole Cemetery, North Zulch, Texas. A visitation will take place from 1 P.M. until service time.
