Robert Sidney Powell, 78 of Oak Ridge passed away at Canterfield of Oak Ridge on May 26, 2018. He was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on February 11, 1940 to parents Isaac F. Powell and Ferrell L. Powell. He worked as a senior mechanical engineer at Lockheed Martin and contracted with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Sid was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge for more than 25 years, serving on the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club, Shriners, and Masons. Sid was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. Sid served in the US Navy Reserve/SEABEES. He enjoyed the art of photography for which he received several awards. Sid loved to travel to explore the world, living in Seoul, South Korea for three years, serving as a contractor at a refugee camp in Albania, and traveling leisurely around Asia and Europe with his wife, Pat Powell. Sid was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Lynn Powell. Survivors include: Wife of 40 years, Patricia Powell; Daughters, Tracie Kennedy Richardson and husband, Mike Richardson of Oliver Springs; Stacie Cotto and husband, Luis Cotto of Alexandria, Virginia; Sarah Jane McAfee and husband, DeAunta McAfee of Clarksville, TN; Sister, Elsie Jo Moore, Saginaw, Texas; Grandchildren, Gary Patrick Kennedy and wife, Brandie; Nina Cotto, Ta’Dri McAfee, and Robert Anderson McAfee. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 (www.alztennessee.org) or First Baptist (Youth Program) of Oak Ridge, TN. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Friday, June 8th from Noon until 2 PM with the funeral service following at 2 PM. Reverend Rory Naive will be officiating.
