Tom Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Sadler Baird of Lexington, age 85, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024. He was born in Elgin, Illinois on February 19, 1938. He retired from Lexington Federal Savings Bank and enjoyed his retirement as a Fayette County School Bus Driver. Tom was a US Navy veteran. He loved spending his time outside hiking, camping, and gardening. Tom was an active leader in Boy Scouts after being a boy scout himself. He also spent his time volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and the Ronald McDonald House. He spent 10 years being a camp counselor at the Cathedral Domain. Tom was a husband, dad, brother, and friend who will be missed beyond measure.


He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Susan (Sponsler) Baird; beloved daughters, Betsy Baird (Brian) and Mary Jump; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Haut and Lorene Sponsler; brother-in-law, Skeeter Bailey; and several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Christ Church Cathedral,166 Market Street, Lexington, Kentucky. Visitation is at 11:00 a.m., service is at 12:30 p.m., burial at Lexington Cemetery is at 2:00 p.m.


Honorary pallbearers are Megg Galloway, David Haut, John Haut, Eric Haut, Boo Bailey, John Sponsler, Ed Sponsler, Palmer Bailey, Donna Fahey and Bob Sponsler.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cathedral Domain (Episcopal Camp and Conference Center) at 800 State Highway 1746, Irvine, Kentucky 40336.
