James Lee Chavis, 69 of Maxton NC finished his life’s race on Saturday, March 9, 2024. He was a dedicated husband and a devoted father.

James was preceded in death by his parents: father, Junior “Fuzzy Chavis, mother, Nove Jo Chavis; one sister: Mabel Chavis, two brothers: Harold Chavis and Randy Chavis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years: Jenny Chavis of Maxton and his daughter Terri Chavis Smithwick (Robert) of Oak Island, NC; three sisters: Carolyn Chavis of Charleston, Tammy Hunt (Wilbert) of Maxton and Fredia Locklear (Billy) of Maxton; three brothers: Ronald Chavis (Kathy) of Rowland, Dennis Chavis (Carolyn) of Rowland and Charles Chavis of Myrtle Beach, SC and one granddaughter: April Barton (Johnell) of Fayetteville; special friends: Mr. Billy and Patsy Locklear.

James was a lover of life there were very few things he didn’t enjoy: trips to the beach, going to the drag race, riding his motorcycle or riding his horse, but most of all he loved talking to and meeting new people. The eve of James’s passing he made it known to his family that it is well with his soul.
