Sheila M. Spence Obituary

Sheila M. Spence, 79 of East Providence, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Miriam Hospital.

Born in Rutherford, NJ she was a daughter of the late John C. and Evelyn (Noren) Meehan. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and did post-graduate work at Boston University. Sheila was a Social Worker all of her working career in adolescent services until she retired.

Sheila loved the ocean and although the waves on Boston’s North Shore never matched the Jersey Shore of her youth, some of her fondest memories were of her time living in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass. She was a resident of Rhode Island for the past 25 years moving to Providence to be closer to her grandchildren.

Sheila was happiest when working and helping others, but also loved gardening, reading, cooking, and time spent with her dog, Rebel.

She leaves one daughter, Amy S. Lappin and her husband Thomas of Plainfield, NH, two grandchildren, Sarah Lappin of Boston, MA and Samuel Lappin of Plainfield, NH, one sister, Karen Riley and her husband John of Northwood, NH along with a nephew,Sean Riley and niece, Kate Riley.
