Obituary
John Norman Schwartz, born December 13, 1945, in Watertown, Minnesota, and raised in Lester Prairie Minnesota passed away on February 29, 2024. He was the son of Norman and Marion Schwartz. John's educational journey was marked by significant achievements, including a degree in Business Administration from Augsburg University and a Master’s in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota.
His professional career in hospital administration began at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee and led to prestigious positions as Hospital President in the Aurora and Advocate systems. He concluded his full-time career as president of Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago. Following his retirement, John continued to contribute his expertise, serving in interim hospital leadership roles in Medford, Oregon; Missoula, Montana; Seaside, Oregon; and Libby, Montana, for the Providence Healthcare system.
John's dedication to education and the arts was exemplified by his generous support of the arts at Augsburg University, where the John N. Schwartz School of the Arts was established in his honor. His passion for classical choral music shone brightly during his 15-year tenure with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago.
John is preceded in death by his sister, Judi Luehrs. He is survived by his loving husband, James Mosley. A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday April 27, 2024 at 10:30 am at Alice Millar Chapel, Northwestern University, 1870 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60208, and on Saturday May 4, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Hoversten Chapel, Augsburg University, 2211 Riverside Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55454. John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his contributions to the arts and healthcare.
