Carroll C. “Bud” Porter, Jr., 79, of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024, at his home with his loving wife and daughter by his side.


Born in Hershey on August 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Carroll C., Sr. and Luella Shepler Porter.


Bud retired as an instructor of meat processing at the Camp Hill Corrections Institution and was a meat processor for the former Porter’s Market, his family’s market in Hummelstown. He was a 1962 graduate of Lower Dauphin Hummelstown High School and a graduate of Norwich University. Bud was a member of Susquehanna Valley Church, Harrisburg. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of the American Legion Post 272, Linglestown. Bud was an avid reader, and enjoyed vacations at Ocean City, Maryland.


Bud is survived by his wife, Bette H. Muchow Porter; a daughter, Tara Porter Schaeffer wife of Dan of Hummelstown; 2 stepdaughters, Rachel Dillon wife of Shontony of Hummelstown and Tina Thompson of Hershey; 2 granddaughters, Maryn Trowbridge and Savannah Trowbridge; and step granddaughters, Ashley Williams, Shontonel Cooke,and Gracie Pho.


A celebration of life will be held, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 7pm in the Susquehanna Valley Church, 6433 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg. A visitation will be held in the church from 6pm until the time of service.


A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.


Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is entrusted with the arrangements.


In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Susquehanna Valley Church, 6433 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
