Jewel Kathryn Blankenship Prescott, Arizona Obituary

Jewel Kathryn Blankenship

Jewel Karthryn Blankenship, Jewel, age 95, passed away on May 10. She was married to the late Owen Blankenship, Ed.D. They reared two children: Kristi Blankenship Edwards (Dale) and the late Stephen Gray Blankenship. Jewel had two grandchildren Kori Blankenship (Frank Swehosky) and Kasey Delz (Jeremy); grandchildren Hannah, Taylor, Clara, Jay, Colt, Quinnlyn, and Kaia; and extended family Jacque McBride (Kim) and Laura Phillips. Jewel lived in Texas for most of her life but also in New Jersey, Maryland, Turkey and the Philippines. In recent years, she resided at Las Fuentes, Prescott, where she had many fun, caring friends; and later at Highgate Senior Living where she loved the attentive staff. Jewel belonged to Prescott United Methodist Church, which provided her with spiritual nourishment. In Texas, she belonged to Grace Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder for many years. She volunteered for the Hunt Country Shared Ministry to feed the hungry, served two terms on the local board of Texas Mental Health Mental Retardation and tutored classroom school children. Her life was filled with card games, book club, bible study and friends. She had a good sense of humor and a curious mind. Jewel loved her family and, although many miles apart, stayed in close touch with all of them. She was a wonderful and generous mother, never critical, always proving emotional nourishment. Jewel will be greatly missed and always remembered for her intelligence, kindness and love of life. In lieu of flowers or charitable donations, please do a good deed for a friend or stranger, gladden the heart of a child, or show kindness to an animal. She will be honored at a family celebration of life.
