Iva A. Hanson Osceola, Wisconsin Obituary

Iva A. Hanson

Iva Augusta (Dally) Hanson passed away peacefully on April 27, 2018, at the Christian Community Home in Osceola, WI. She was born on August 29, 1921, in Hiwood, MN (near Baudette, MN) to Francis Lloyd and Iva (Benedix) Dally. She was the oldest of seven children and always had fun stories to share about growing up. Iva met and married Clifford Hanson in Baudette and lived there until he entered the military during WWII. Together they raised three children and traveled to or lived on three different continents. Iva was an amazing woman who always put others before herself. This thoughtfulness began when she was a girl helping her mom with her siblings and cooking for workers in the nearby CCC camp. That is when she developed her “world famous” donut skills. While Clifford was flying missions over Europe during WWII, Iva moved in with his parents to help care for them, their farm and also their two small children. When the war ended, Clifford returned and they resumed their lives together, adding one more child to their family. In the 1950’s they moved the family to Casablanca, Morocco while Clifford was in the Civilian Service at the Air Force base. Iva tended to the family, making friends and creating once in a lifetime experiences for her children. Moving back to the United States they settled in Osceola at the Air Base. The children all graduated from Osceola High School. When the base closed, Iva and Clifford moved to Dresser. Iva took a job at Ladd Memorial Hospital (now Osceola Medical Center) as a Ward Secretary. This was a job she took much pride in and was very good at it. It also allowed her to have an impact on so many lives. Iva sat at the desk where she could visit with doctors, nurses, custodians, visitors and patients, which is what she made sure to make time for, in addition to getting her work done. Her caring demeanor carried even further when she started making baby quilts for babies born in the nursery just down the hall from her desk. In spite of arthritis in her hands, Iva was always doing something with them in the kitchen making bread, cinnamon rolls, gingerbread houses, special birthday cakes and divinity, making beaded ornaments, or sewing and tying quilts or something new to try. When Clifford passed away, Iva continued with her crafts and working. She also loved to spend time with her friends, and was actively involved at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Osceola. Iva continued to travel with her siblings and visited them as often as she could, as well as her children who were living in three different states. As a grandma and great-grandma, she instilled the importance of family and spending time together, especially when it involved food and games. She passed down the donut recipe and droppers, how to make the baby quilts, and how to enjoy every moment that we are given. Iva will be deeply missed, but her kindness, humor and thoughtfulness will live on in all the lives she had touched. Iva is survived by her brothers, Ross (Bette) Dally, Ronald (Lola) Dally, and Rodney Dally all of Baudette, MN; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Dally of Bemidji, MN; son, Rodney (Sharon) Hanson of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Bonnie Heuer of Osceola; son-in-law, Wayne Riba of Dresser; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Iva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; siblings, Delmo, Doris, and Joyce; daughter, Carol Riba; son-in-law, Wayne Heuer; grandsons, Jeffrey Heuer and Richard Hanson. A very special thank you to the Christian Community Home of Osceola and Hospice for the care Iva received the past several years.
