Barbara Zapata Obituary

Barbara Zapata, a beacon of light and love, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024, at her home in Plantation, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well lived.

Born on June 1,1949 in Manhattan, Barb's early years were spent in the bustling streets of NYC. A lover of the arts, Barb found joy in the theater, passages of a good book, and her many arts and crafts. She was also an avid reader of the NY Times and loved the challenge of the crossword puzzle.

Barb's greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her loving sons, Christian, Steven (Judith), and James (Kelly). Barb was a cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will miss her deeply but will carry forward the love and wisdom she so generously shared. She is also survived by her only brother, Thomas Gingeras.

After dedicating the initial chapters of her life to raising her boys, Barb pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. With unwavering determination and the love of learning, she obtained her BSN from Alvernia University. Her academic achievements came as no surprise to those who knew her, as she was the embodiment of intelligence and commitment.

Barb will be remembered not only for her deep dedication to helping others but the impact she had on many lives which ultimately led her to her true passion to become a hospice nurse. As a hospice nurse, she was able to blend the two pillars of her life, her catholic faith and serving others.

The legacy Barb leaves behind is one of love, knowledge, and joy. Her ability to connect with people, her dedication to her family, and her passion for her work have left an indelible mark on the world.

As we say farewell to Barb, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a spirit that will continue to inspire. Her memory will be held in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were privileged to know her.
