Harley D. Gray, 75 of Chillicothe passed away at 6:00am on Monday, September 20, 2010 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Born January 30, 1935 in Marshall County, IL the son of John and Elva (Hargadine) Gray. He married Judith A. Weitz on October 14, 1956 in Chillicothe, IL. Surviving are his wife of 53 years Judith Gray of Chillicothe, his children; Michael E. (Peggy) Gray of Wyoming, IL, Monica L. Gray of West Dundee, IL and Nathan (Laura) Gray of Chillicothe, 4 grandchildren; Travis M. and Tyler P. Gray of Wyoming, IL and Briana M. and Kristin C. Gray of Chillicothe, 2 brothers; John L. (Barb) Gray of Chillicothe and Alfred "Tote" (Shirley) Gray of Peoria, IL, 1 sister; Judy G. Secrest of East Peoria, 1 sister-in-law; Rose Gray of Iowa and sister-in-law Jane (Cal) McDonald of Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother; Wallace Gray. Harley was blessed with caring friends who supported him during his long battle with Parkinson?s disease. He enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family at home which was made possible by the outstanding care he received from Amy Suhr, Tina Page, and Gloria Bickett. Harley worked for 30 years at Caterpillar retiring in 1994. He was an active member of the Chillicothe First United Methodist Church serving on many committees including United Methodist Men, chairing Trustees and Memorial. He was a lifetime member of the George Washington Lodge #222 and a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #91. He was a member of the 1955 Chillicothe High School undefeated football team inducted in the Hall of Fame. Harley enjoyed building homes, woodworking and family vacations throughout the USA. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. The Rev. Ted Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted by his lodge at 5:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home with visitation immediately following until 8pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Chillicothe 1st United Methodist church Memorial Fund.
