Emma Chaney Obituary

Emma A. Chaney, 93, of Peoria, passed away at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Bel-Wood Nursing Home in Peoria. Emma was born on April 6, 1914 to Adolph and Anna Hartseil. She married Marion “Bud” Chaney on October 14, 1936 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1979. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Teresa Sloan of Peoria; grandchildren, Kathleen and Chester Spearman of Peoria, Karen and Danny Lopez of Marquette Heights and Karla and Rick Moore of Creve Coeur. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Nassara, Larissa, Danny, E.C., Courtney and many nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her son, Leslie Sloan, four sisters and one brother. Emma was a homemaker and operated a dairy farm with her husband for many years. She was a devoted member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. She participated in Leisure Group, Mission Circle and quilting at her church. She enjoyed sewing, farming, quilting and gardening. She just loved plants and flowers. She liked listening to religious music and Andre Rieu, but “Silent Night” was her favorite song. Emma enjoyed spending her time at church, with her family at reunions and holiday gatherings and at Mineral Springs Park in Pekin. She will be remembered for her patience, courage, honesty and the loving care she always provided. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bartonville, with the Rev. Wayne Shelksohn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donors choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Consultants in Peoria.
