Pearl Braunagel Obituary

Pearl Braunagel, 75, of Peoria, passed away at 8:22 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Pearl was born on August 15, 1931, in Cynthiana, KY, daughter of Sidney and Myrtle (Kearns) Whitaker. She married Dr. Donald Braunagel on September 24, 1954 in Peoria. He survives. She is also survived by her two daughters, Becky (Del) Ruesch of Indianapolis and Bonnie (Doug) Holmes of Peoria; four grandchildren, Erika Goldstein of Peoria and Brian, Katie and Danny Ruesch of Indianapolis; two brothers, Sidney Glen (Patty) Whitaker of Lakehead, CA and Harry (Arlene) Whitaker of Peoria; and one sister, Mildred Woodhall of Colorado Springs, CO. Her parents, one brother, Clay Whitaker and one sister, Vada Whitaker, preceded her in death. Pearl was the former owner and operator of Oakwood Interiors in Peoria. After retiring, she enjoyed spending the winters in Longboat Key, FL. She was a member of Mt. Hawley Country Club and the Longboat Key Club. Pearl was often called “Bear” and, depending on her mood, “Honey” or “Grizzly” preceded. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, golfing, quilting, sewing and was a big sports fan. She would always root for the Chicago Bulls, Cubs and Bears. She loved music, especially Big Band, but was especially fond of Sinatra, Elvis and Tom Jones. Pearl also enjoyed collecting salt and peppershakers and Lalique Crystal. Although she had several dear friends, Beverly was always there for her. Pearl was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She always wanted the best for her girls and was quite complimentary of them ~ even known to embellish a little. Private family services were held on Saturday, April 7, 2007, with Dr. Paul Isom officiating. Interment was held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to TAPS or the Alzheimers Association of Central Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Consultants in Peoria.
