David Wantling

David N. “Spoon” Wantling, 62, of Peoria passed away at 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born August 10, 1952 in Peoria, a son of Neil B. and Wanita F. (Dybevik) Wantling. David attended schools in Peoria, graduating from Manual High School in 1970. He worked as a laborer out of local 165. He was rumored to be an excellent bartender. David was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Peoria. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Wanita and Don Van Scoyoc; sister, Patti Stookey of St. Augustine, FL; brother, Steven J. (Kim) Wantling; daughter, Carrie Ann Wantling; grandson, Kyle Jordan Wantling; his favorite cousin, Sherry Bartolo; one special niece, Alycia Raska who was by his side day and night during his last days; and two great nieces, Taylor and Kaylee Raska. David was preceded in death by his father, Neil B. Wantling; paternal grandparents, Pat and Mary Wantling; maternal grandparents, Roger and Helen Dybevik; his mothers twin sister and his best friend, Anita Hasty; aunt, Devonne Stalder; uncle, Ronald South; his favorite cousin, Mike Hasty; and great nephew, Austin Weeks. We would like to give a special thanks to Joan and Yul at Heartland Therapy who got David walking after his stroke until many illnesses took the ability away again. David “Spoon” was a St. Louis Cardinal Fan. He loved fishing and being with friends. David was the easiest going and well liked person you could meet. He will be forever missed. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a private graveside service at the Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Steven Tibbetts and Pastor Paul Park presiding. Memorial contributions may be made in Davids name to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
