Vivian Braunagel Obituary

Vivian A. Braunagel, 101, a long-time resident of Peoria Heights, IL, passed away at 12:07 a.m., March 4, 2006 at home. Vivian was born on December 7, 1904, in rural Marshall County, daughter of John and Bertha Roof Lawless. She married Bernard G. Braunagel on September 15, 1928 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1977 in Peoria Heights. Her parents and one brother, Bernard Lawless, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Dr. Donald (Pearl) Braunagel, of Peoria; two granddaughters, Becky Ruesch, of Indianapolis and Bonnie Holmes, of Peoria; and four great grandchildren, Erika Goldstein, of Peoria, and Brian, Katie and Danny Ruesch, of Indianapolis. Vivian was a grade school teacher in rural schools and Peoria Heights Grade School. She also worked, for over thirty years, as a sales associate for Bergner's Department Store in Peoria. She formerly attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria. Vivian enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, reading histories and biographies and watching sports. She was a fan of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs and Lawrence Welk. She liked visiting Grandview Drive and taking her great-granddaughter to the park. Her family is most proud of her for the education that she attained and gave to others and for being a great grandma, cook and teacher of life. At her request, there will be no visitation. Private services will be held, with the Rev. Stephen Hartman officiating. Interment will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Hospice.
