John David Wickie Obituary

With profound sadness and loving memories, we announce the passing of John David Wickie, a beloved father, son, and friend, who left us too soon on January 16, 2024, at the age of 54.

John was larger than life, known for his quick wit, confidence, and intelligence. A natural storyteller and captivating speaker, John had a unique ability to capture everyone’s attention with his words. His deep appreciation for the small things in life, combined with a thirst for knowledge, shone through in everything he said. Defined by a boundless enthusiasm for living and a desire to do good, his sarcastic humour and vibrant outlook on life made every encounter with him memorable and delightful. Predeceased by his father, Allen Wickie, John leaves behind a legacy of love and strength to his devoted mother, Elizabeth Bardswich; and his cherished children, Megan, Abigail, and Ryan Wickie, who were the sun, moon, and stars of his life.

Professionally, John was a respected manager and director, touching the lives of many through his leadership and mentorship. His passion for guiding others and being a role model in the workplace was evident to all who worked with him. John’s influence and teachings will live on in the careers and lives of those he mentored.

John’s love for his children knew no bounds. He loved them more than life itself and he always expressed immense pride in their achievements and aspirations. His role as a father was the one he cherished most, and the bond he shared with Megan, Abigail, and Ryan was unbreakable.

Among his closest companions were “his boys,” the Cliff Boys. This group of lifelong friends, who grew up together, remained inseparably close. Their frequent meetups were a source of joy and support for John, and their shared memories will continue to be a testament to their enduring friendship.

A significant part of John’s life was his beloved camp on Fairbank Lake, fondly known as, “Wickie World.” This place, more than any other, held a special place in his heart. His grandfather’s legacy of building five cottages on 10 acres of property for his children was cherished deeply by John. He grew up here, and in turn, his children experienced the magic of Fairbank Lake. The tranquility, beauty, and family history intertwined with this place made it his favorite spot on Earth.

In accordance with John’s wishes, a private gathering will be held where his ashes will be lovingly sprinkled at his most treasured place, his family cottage on Fairbank Lake. As we bid farewell to John, we celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the countless lives he touched. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
