Josephine "Jo" Zernich Obituary

Josephine “Jo” Zernich, 95, of Center Township, passed away Sunday February 11, 2024.

Born April 27, 1928, in Wampum, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Lula (Flumer) Schena.

Jo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and an excellent homemaker. Many memories were shared in her kitchen, where she enjoyed cooking, playing games, and watching movies with her family.

One of her greatest passions was tennis, a sport she not only played with skill well into her late 80’s, but also followed by unwavering enthusiasm. For nearly 30 years, she attended the US Open in New York City with her best friends, Carol Unis and Frances “Tooky” Zernich.

Jo was also known for her impeccable style. She was an icon of timeless grace and elegance. Her flair for fashion and all things beautiful reflected in her vibrant personality.

She will be remembered as one who has inspired those around her to live life to the absolute fullest and with beauty until the very end.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Wallace Zernich, in 2010, and her siblings, Virginia Davis and Donald Schena.

She will be deeply missed by her three sons, Dr. Gregg Zernich and his wife Diana, who offered much comfort to Jo in her time of need, Dr. Brian (Tanya) Zernich, and Gary (Dawn) Zernich; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Ashley Zernich, Kristin Lopez, Kolette Zernich, Clayton Zernich, Wallace Zernich, William Zernich, and Annie Zernich; a great granddaughter, Elodie; a sister, Linda Barnes, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday, February 16, 2024, from 3pm until 7pm at TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, PA 15001, where a service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2023, at 11am, with Fr. Njegosh Perkovic, officiating.
