Thomas Daryl Cline Obituary

Thomas Daryl Cline, 73, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Liza’s Place with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, Pastor Heather and James Rogers at his bedside.

He was born November 9, 1950, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Thomas Perry Cline and Frances Watson Cline of New Cumberland, WV.

He attended public schools in Hancock, Brooke and Ohio Counties. He graduated from Warwood High School in 1968.

While still in High School he was employed at the family business, Cline's Esso. At the age of 17 he started taking flying lessons in Glen Dale, WV, which was a grass air strip. He later obtained his private pilot license. In April 1969, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was with the 320th Bomb Wing of The Strategic Air Command as an Airborne Missile Technician. After an Honorable Discharge, he returned home to the family business until his father's illness. At which time, the business was sold. He went to work at Wheeling Machine Products until its closing. He then found other job opportunities. In 1992, he was hired by The City of Wheeling as a 911 Dispatcher and retired from that position in 2017. He had worked part-time as a custodian for Warwood United Methodist Church.

He was married to Betty Jo Mundt Cline on May 12, 1973. One son, Thomas Brian Cline, his wife, Miwa and twin sons, David Guillermo Cline and Thomas Mateo Cline and Alexander Luciano Cline complete his immediate family.

He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in January 1976 in Nelson Lodge No. 30 (Wheeling, WV). He became Master of the lodge in 1982 and served as Master a total of 14 years until Nelson Lodge No. 30 merged with Ohio Lodge No. 1 (Wheeling, WV) in 2005. He also served as Master of Ohio Lodge No. 1 for 5 years. He was Past Master of Nelson Lodge No. 30 A.F. & A.M., Current Master of Ohio Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M., Past Master of Ohio Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M., Past District Deputy Grand Master First District, Past High Priest Wheeling Union Chapter No. 1, Past Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons of West Virginia 2022-2023, Past Commander Wheeling Commandery No. 1 and 32 Degree Member of The Scottish Rite Valley of Wheeling. He was a member of Osiris Shrine, Mountain State Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, Knight Masons Council No. 7, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest Tabernacle XIX, Warwood United Methodist Church, The Civil Air Patrol of West Virginia, Warwood Veterans Club and the Wellsburg, West Virginia Moose.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Duane and David Cline; and mother and father-in-law, Harvey H. And Betty E. Mundt of Warwood, WV.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Betty Jo Mundt Cline; their son, Thomas Brian (Miwa) Cline; twin grandsons, David Guillermo Cline and Thomas Mateo Cline; grandson, Alexander Luciano Cline, all of Wheeling; sister, Deborah (Thomas) Baum of Benwood, WV; a brother, William (Holly) Cline of Summerville, SC; a brother-in-law, Harvey W. Mundt of Wheeling; several nieces; and their tuxedo cat, Baby.

Daryl was known for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He was always willing to help people without wanting any recognition. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and his Church.

Daryl was a true gentleman in every aspect of his life, including a clean white handkerchief that he carried in his back pocket, just in case a lady or child needed to wipe a tear. That's the definition of A TRUE GENTLEMAN.

He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 1 - 3 PM and 5 - 8 PM and Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM with Pastor Heather Rogers officiating at Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave., Wheeling (304-277-2722). Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, where Ohio Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a Masonic graveside service.
