It was there he continued with the YMCA, and met his future wife, Lois McNeil (formerly of Eckville, Alberta). He switched to becoming active in coaching and involved in their sports. He continued to partake in his love of hunting and golf, and in late 2022, Don and Lois moved to Sylvan Lake, where he spent his final year. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lois; his two sons, Brad and Kyle; and their partners, Melissa and Jackie; and his grandsons, Parker, Lachlan, Nolan, Corbin and Hank.
