Ethel Dial Sellers Obituary

Ethel Dial Sellers died peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Troy Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family and well prepared spiritually for that moment. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11 am at Ramer Methodist Church, in Ramer, Alabama, with the Rev. Lynn Smilie Nesbitt officiating. The Burial will follow at Ramer Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 am at the church.

Ethel was born on April 20, 1933, in Brunswick, Georgia. She moved to Greensboro, Alabama in 1942 and graduated from Greensboro High School. After high school, she attended Birmingham Southern and then graduated from Auburn University in 1955. While at Auburn, she met Gilbert Sellers, and they subsequently married in 1956. She moved with Gilbert to a number of Air Force bases while he was engaged with the Air Force, and during that time, they began their family and settled more permanently in Ramer in 1961. Ethel quickly became a beloved member of the special community that Ramer is. She loved her church and church family and taught Sunday School for decades while also participating in many other functions of the Ramer Methodist Church and the community. She taught elementary school before moving to Ramer and was a Cub Scout leader, PTA member, Civic Club member, and member of many other organizations that were important to her as a wife, mother, and member of her beloved community. She was a natural teacher with a sweet spirit, a gentle disposition, and a uncompromising commitment to her Christian beliefs.

Ethel was preceded in death by her loving parents Edward Rodrick and Ethel Dial Turner, her brothers Riley Dial and Jack Dial, and her sisters Catherine Christy and Jill Corbitt.

Ethel is survived by her husband of 67 years, W. Gilbert Sellers, Jr. Additional survivors include her three children, Lee Ann (Richard II) Runyeon, W. Gilbert (Martha) Sellers III, and Susan (Paul) Windham ; her ten grandchildren, Richard Runyeon III, Russell Runyeon, Rex (Semi) Runyeon, Christine (G. Stovall) Moore, Samuel Sellers, Sara (W. Evan) Stringfellow, Alex (C. Wesley) Ratliff, Tyler (Katie) Windham, Avery (Nicholas) Laskay, and Jackson Windham. She also leaves behind ten great grandchildren, a sister, Nan Hanburry, a brother, Tommy (Janice) Dial, her sister in law Mary Emma Sellers Smilie, and several treasured nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be the six Grandsons of Ethel and Gilbert named above.

The family appreciates so much the outpouring of sympathy and prayers that have been expressed and would like to suggest that any gifts be directed to the charity of your choosing.
