Tommie Marie Whitfield, Coleman was born on October 29, 1944 and went to be with Jesus on February 9, 2024, in Earlsboro, OK. surrounded by family and friends. Tommie was born to Thomas and Lois Whitfield in Sherman, TX.
She married Charles Coleman on August 13, 1960. They had three children Randy, Terry, and Janet.
Tommie worked for Texas Instruments and later earned her Teaching degree and worked for and retired from Bakersfield City Schools. She and Charles enjoyed many travels including Alaska and a mission trip together to Belize.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening, she sewed clothes for her and Janet and enjoyed camping with her siblings and family at Platte National Park in Oklahoma. She and Charles were members of Thousand Trails and enjoyed many trips to various locations in the United States.
Tommie enjoyed growing up and singing with her sisters at church. She also enjoyed singing with her brother Kenneth and sisters Betty and Maudine at Meadowbrook Nursing Home.
She was known as a gentle, intelligent, soft spoken, kind spirited person and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her three children, Randy Lynn Coleman of McCool, MS, Terry Lee Coleman of Kansas City, MO and Janet Annette Hash and husband John of Shawnee, OK: 8 grandchildren, Leslie, Tanner, Amber, John, Kelsey, John Mark, Cody, and Caleb, as well as great and great-great grandchildren. She was one of five children, sister Christine Hall and Carl, brother Kenneth Whitfield and Linda, sister Maudine Day, and Betty Baker and Albert.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Dwight and sister-in-law Peggy.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM till 10:45AM prior of service at Scoggins Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to mom. A special thanks to Melody and Christina as caregivers and all of the others who touched our mom’s life in caring for her. She will be greatly missed.
