Mr. Nikolay Joseph Gehrki Obituary

Nikolay Joseph Gehrki, 19, Monroe NC, passed away on February 9, 2024 after an UTV accident.

Nikolay was born on August 30, 2004 in Rostov, Russia. He was adopted in July 2005 by Nancy Tierney and Joe Gehrki.

Nikolay had such a gentle and kind spirit. He was nice to everyone and was happy to help anyone in need. He volunteered one summer at a local camp for special needs kids and made it his mission to ensure his assigned “camp buddy” had a great day, each and every day. He loved animals and enjoyed growing up in a home with multiple rescues/strays (Rex, Gracie and Zoey).

Nikolay also thoroughly enjoyed playing sports. He participated in the local rec league and found joy in baseball, basketball and recently played flag football and golf with his friends. Beyond the playing field, Nikolay harbored a passion for stand-up comedy, aspiring to bring laughter to others.

During high school, Nikolay was preparing for his future and wanted to take an intro to welding to see if he would enjoy a career in the trades. After this experience, Nikolay was confident that this was the career path for him. He was enrolled in the CPCC Welding Program and was on his way to becoming a skilled welder. He channeled his creativity through the art of metalwork.

Nikolay is survived by his mother, Nancy Tierney, his father Frank Joseph Gehrki IV, his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tierney and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gehrki III. His aunts and uncles Jean and Harry Bonnar, Linda and Travis Snyder, Cathy Tierney, Steve and Jill Tierney, John Tierney and Michelle Buccelli.

Services will be held at Holland Funeral Service on February 15, 2024 with a viewing from 12pm – 1pm and service at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mike Rowe Works Foundation (https://mikeroweworks.org/scholarship/) an organization helping promote and encourage men and women to pursue careers in the trades. Nikolay was also passionate about dog rescues and donations to a local no-kill shelter would also be a great way to honor his memory.
