John Cokus Obituary

John left us heartbroken on Sunday, February 11th when he unexpectedly passed away from a sudden illness. John was born on December 21, 1966, to Andrew Cokus, Jr. and Rhoda Catherine (Rider) Cokus in Syracuse, NY. He was the youngest of four children and the heart of our family.

He grew up in Canastota and is survived by sisters Diane (Cokus) Nasiff and Barbara Cokus and brother Robert Cokus. He attended Canastota High School where he graduated in 1987.

John loved to turn a wrench on anything with a motor and spent his life pursuing an automotive-related career. He had a "need for speed" and was always a huge NASCAR fan. He knew all the racecar drivers' histories and could tell you about their accomplishments.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and could always and easily make us laugh. With his gentle nature, John had many beloved pets over the years and enjoyed the simple pleasure of observing the abundant wildlife in his own backyard.

John could always be counted on whenever someone needed him. He went above and beyond instinctively and never needed to be asked. He was an especially caring son and dedicated brother. He was a quiet, unassuming person with a loving, trusting heart and always put others' needs ahead of his own.

John was deeply loved by his family and all who knew and shared time with him. He will be dearly missed more than he could ever know. Services will be held on Friday, February 16th from 5PM to 6:00PM at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 300 S. Peterboro Street, Canastota, NY.
