Joseph Martin Alfery Obituary

Our dear “Papa”, Joseph Alfery (82), of Mount Lebanon, PA passed away Saturday, February 10th at home. “To us”...his dear wife Claire Ann, daughter Tracy (Gary) DeCock, son Joey (Denise) Alfery and grandchildren Carly & Mitchell DeCock and Kyrstin & Chloe Alfery ...”he was so wonderful”. (Song by Eddie Fisher)

Joe is also survived by his sister Marie (Melvin, deceased) Schwartz, his brother Max (Ruth) Alfery and his ex-wife/co-parent/friend Susan Rossero. He was the youngest child to Max and Theresa Alfery of Brentwood, PA. He was a graduate of Brentwood HS and Duquesne University. Joe eventually took over his father's ownership of Colonial Gallery Furniture alongside his brother and had a long career in the furniture industry as a Pennsylvania House Furniture Sales Representative. He was also an active entrepreneur with various real estate interests around the Pittsburgh area.

Joe lived every day the way he wanted; he loved his family, the Steelers, a good IPA with salt and pepper followed by a gin martini, Frank Sinatra or his granddaughter Carly singing, handing out dollar bills to any kid in a stroller, taking his annual trip to San Diego via Vegas, and peppering his grandkids with a thousand questions about their personal lives via weekly phone calls. He loved making toasts, big belly laughs until he teared up, watching CNBC and Bloomberg all day, and cooking the ultimate roast for any small gathering or ravenous crowd. He was not the greatest patient these last months and perhaps not the absolute perfect husband (having tried it twice!), but he was truly an exceptional grandfather that loved to share with anyone that the definition of a genius was "any kid with a grandparent". He was a truly vibrant force in our lives and we can be comforted that he died with us knowing he lived by the lyrics of “My Way”.

Arrangements by BEINHAUER, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray PA 15317, 74-941-3211. At his request, there will be no services at this time, but some celebration of life with immediate family this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting in the quest to cure the debilitating disease, Parkinson's.
