Eileen Sparks Obituary

Eileen Sparks, 79, of Lombard Illinois, passed away on February, 6, 2024 after a long battle with COPD, & Lung Cancer. She passed away peacefully at home in hospice care- holding her daughter Julie’s hand as she passed.

Eileen was a Beloved Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Friend. Eileen had a vibrant personality that matched her flair for fashion and her Maybelline # 275 lip color- Crazy For Coffee!

Eileen is survived by her brother, David Olson, and his wife, Jo Olson; her son, Charles Roy Sparks, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Sparks; her son, James Ness, and wife, Vanessa Ness; her daughter, Julie Sparks; Eileen’s best friend and whom she considered a daughter by Blessing- Karen Brantl; her granddaughter, Savannah Emmi, and her husband, Dominic; and her granddaughter, Hunter Burns, and her husband, Matthew. And her beloved Fur- companion, Bentley.

It brought great joy to Eileen to be healthy enough to attend both of her Grandaughters’s weddings in 2023!

She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Olson; her mother, Audrey Olson; her brother, John Olson; her sister, Judith David; her son, Steve Sparks; and her late husband, Charles Sparks.

Throughout her career, Eileen worked in several Chicago area restaurants, including Sharkos, Hi-View, Villa Nova, Sunmist, and Lumes. She also had experience in retail, having worked at Catherine's and Katy's Boutique in Glen Ellyn, IL.

Eileen found solace and community at the Salvation Army Church in Chicago, where she worshipped in your younger years, and most recently by a loving visit from Major Debbie Sjogren (R) Salvation Army Liaison to the WhiteHouse, who made a home hospice visit that provided great comfort to her.

On her COPD journey, Eileen was fortunate to have an army of medical Angels that assisted her in her fight to live, and breathe. Among those were, Dr. Anthony Lin of Villa Medical Arts, VMA Office Mgr- Joann, Dr. Jaime Villanueva, and the entire team at Residential Hospice- especially her loving, supportive Hospice nurse - Juan Pablo.

Eileen wanted to chronicle her COPD journey by helping others and enjoyed making videos and posts with her daughter, Julie on her Instagram and Tik-Tok @copdcaregiving. A book telling Eileen’s COPD story is in the works and the hope is that it will help those navigating COPD alone as well as family members taking in the task of caregiving for a loved one with COPD.

Eileen loved to travel to the lights and Show of Las Vegas, the hustle and bustle of NYC, and to Florida to visit her brother David, and his wife Jo. There are no plans for a memorial service at this time- to honor Eileen’s wishes. Eileen will have her ashes placed in Florida at a date in the near future.
